So you've heard that there is a "Mom's Time Out" happening on Sunday, October 2nd at Earth Fare. You know that you can shop with local, mom-run businesses at the event. And that it will be fun for the whole family with a fire truck and arts & crafts for the kids and so forth. But what the heck IS a "Mom's Time Out"?
Good question! Mom's Time Out is a time for Tallahassee moms, their families, and others in the community to come out and enjoy food, shopping, and fun while supporting mothers in business. Moms are busy people. They want to support each other, but their lack of time sometimes forces them to just do what is easiest. Mom's Time Out events strive to make it easier to connect with local, mom-run businesses.
It all began back in November of 2010, when 4 local mom entrepreneurs got together to discuss the idea of holding a small, collaborative "trunk show" to promote their respective businesses. The four moms were Carrie Fraser of HappyLittleMonkey, Marlo Fulton with Little Speckled Frog LLC, Suzi Mojock owner of Rinse & Repeat - A Kids' Boutique Salon, and Jen Starks of Ecological Babies. Through their discussions it became obvious that while separately they could be successful in business, together they could accomplish so much more! And if they could benefit from the connections and expertise of each other, there were probably more moms in the same situation. So they began talking about creating a business association composed of local, mom-run businesses that would serve as a base for networking as well as promotion of their businesses to the community.
As their first venture towards promoting moms-in-business to the community, they hosted an event called "Mom's Time Out". It was held in the parking lot behind Rinse & Repeat on Sunday, December 5, 2010, and encouraged the community to come out and meet local, moms in business. The event boasted over a dozen businesses and brought in over 100 customers and supporters that day! The organizers knew they were on to something and have gone on to host many more "Mom's Time Out" events and well as grow their membership by leaps and bounds. General information for vendors: Date: Sunday, October 2nd Time: Noon - 4pm Set up/Take Down: 10am/5:30pm Where: Earth Fare, 2425 Apalachee Parkway Tallahassee, Florida What: This is a market-type event where local, mom-run businesses will be selling and displaying their products and/or services to the Tallahassee community.
Vendor applications will be considered on several criteria: 1. MTO membership 2. Previous event participation 3. Mom-run business 4. Locally-based business 5. Business type (to ensure a variety of vendors at each event, MTO Organizers reserve the right to limit each type of vendor to a certain percentage of the total number of vendors) 6. Order of submission (date and time stamp as determined by email correspondence) 7. Plays Well With Others
Fees: - Mom’s Time Out Members and Supporters (10' x 10' Booth Space): $30.00 - Non-members (10' x 10' Booth Space): $45.00 - Place flyers on a community table and be listed on website (no individual booth space): $10.00 - Nonprofit, club, or local event table space: $10.00
